Description

A classic music room activity made simple.

When you are crazy busy, you need a workhorse that you can use with ALL your classes. Five minutes passing time (or less!) between classes can be pretty rough on your setup, especially if you need to make a trip down the hall!

This set makes it super easy to pass out an envelope or a baggie to each student. Color coordinate your cards so you can tell your first graders to pull out 2 colors, and your 5th graders to pull out 6.

– Write rhythm notation for known songs and patterns

– Perfect for practicing rhythmic dictation

– Compose their own rhythms!

Contains 7 different measure cards and cards with rhythmic values represented by length for whole notes and rests down to sixteenth notes and rests.

– Stick and regular notation

– Heartbeat icons for quarter/eighths for your pre-reading students

– Easy print pages for color coordination

Beat strips are one of the best tools a music teacher can have, and have been a favorite of teachers for decades for a reason!

My kids used these manipulatives to compose rhythms for Boomwhackers last week, and the whole process went very smoothly. 51. Laura Nordlund –

Great manipulative for my student to show individual understanding.

  52. JP B. –

Soooooo incredibly useful! Also, Mrs. Stouffer, I saw your tip for printing the rhythms on different colored sheets (ex.: Quarter Note=Red paper; Eighth Notes=Blue paper; Quarter Rests=Green; etc.) and wish I had done that before laminating them all on white paper, but that’s for the future!

  53. Music With Mrs Q –

I had been needing to replace my handmade manipulatives for years and this was the perfect way to upgrade! So many uses and after laminating they will last me forever!

I also put magnets on the backs of one set, and have them permanently on the side of my magnetic board – they are easy to move around as I teach rhythms. Thankyou Melissa. 🙂

  57. Jessica M –

These were exactly what I was looking for to have a hands on experience for the students. They enjoyed being able to move and make, and I loved that it is easy to assess if they are able to produce what is asked, or play their own creations. Brilliant, made a class set and have them in reusable envelopes for easy grab and go!

My students loved this resource this morning! Even though I teach middle school, they were able to use this for their own rhythm creations individually and in groups. Printing this out made it so easy to get ready for my students! I was wondering if you have a triplet page to add at some point? Otherwise this set seems very complete! Thanks so much!

  63. kathleen C. –

I love an activity that can grow with them. I find that the squares and different lengths of the note duration cards are a valuable visual for many of my students. It was helpful when learning whole note that it took up the whole frame. I also liked that it came with different time signatures.
