The book includes resources, context, and a glossary in the back to help teachers communicate everything in the book. Not only would this be a wonderful book to add to your library, but it’s a great way to introduce spirituals to students.

This is a modern retelling of a spiritual. It’s POWERFUL. It’s beautiful, and poignant. This is NOT a book I’d simply leave on the shelf as there are depictions of slavery. However, for your older students, this is a great musical connection with the proper preparations.
