I know BTS is the time we think about curriculum and decor, but sub tubs are an important thing to consider as well. Gosh forbid that you need to miss the first week of school, but it does happen! Let’s talk about the basics you need right when you go back to school!

Basic Info

Some things should be there no matter what point of the year you are in. Make sure you have the basics like emergency info, medical info, where is info, logins, and how to get ahold of the office. This set has all the paperwork you need to make sure your sub has the correct info!

No Tech

At this time of year there may be tech bugs, kids may not have log ins, haven’t been taught procedures, or just aren’t ready for the tech yet. Make sure you leave things that don’t have any tech necessities like coloring sheets, books, no prior knowledge worksheets/review worksheets, or things like that to cover time.

Literature

Kids books – grab a stack of your favorites and keep them on the shelf just for subs! There are bunches of book sets you can find on TpT that will also help provide follow up activities or you can pick a few biographies and add in some listening to go with them. Find lots of options on The Ultimate Music Ed Book List

Worksheets

Listening worksheets, coloring worksheets, color by note/solfege/etc. Write the room. These are great for time fillers while students can still get some information! Here’s some sub tub materials.

Videos

Especially at key times of year, videos are important. Move Its, Dance videos, body percussion videos, boomwhacker videos, other play alongs, musical themed videos, clips of musicals or musical listening like my 32 weeks of listening can provide time for your sub! There is NO shame in showing movies this time of year before you really know your students ESPECIALLY K/1!
