This hilarious game is perfect for a sub tub!

I put together a huge list of operas and cheeses (40 in all!) and created a slideshow game. There are also cards at the end if you want to add your own.

Newly updated to give you the best! You’ve been asking! Now:

– Includes information about each opera: composer, librettist, language it’s performed in.

– Includes old version if that is your favorite!

– Powerpoint AND PDF so you can run it the way that is easier for you!

Three print options for the game cards.

Here are some ideas for using the game:

• Emergency sub plans for all ages (Even little ones can have fun with this!)

• Perfect because your sub does not have to be a music person.

• Open House Activity – this is a great way to engage people quickly in your room!

• End of class reward. My 5-8 general music students beg to play this game!

• Game Day

• Game at the end of an opera unit

•Perfect for high school students in a drama class!

  1. Emily S. –

This will be perfect for my 4/5 students–our opera unit starts next week. Also, the game cards and ideas for how to tweak the game depending on age level are very helpful!

    • Shelley –

Thanks!! I intend to use the game with a bunch of different age groups. I’ve done that with my Pasta game and the kids did a great job. I hope your kids love it! 🙂

  2. Pitch Publications –

Can’t wait to use this in my classroom! These are hilarious! Great way to introduce opera in my room!

  3. Ginny’s Music Space –

Love this idea! I can’t wait to hear what my students think about it. I can just imagine how my students will pronounce some of these 😉 I will plan to leave this in my sub tub for emergencies. No supplies needed. I may even make it a competition between classes or within the same class to see who can get the most right.

  4. Buyer –

This is perfect! I have to be out a couple of days in January and needed something great, relevant, and NOT a video to leave! Great idea! (Though ashamed of my own score when reviewing the product! 😉

LOVE! I loved your other file as well, but this is hysterical! The kids had a great time learning and playing the game. Normally, opera is considered “stuffy” around my district, but this gives it a fun twist for the kids. Can’t wait to see more!

    • Shelley –

I’m so glad! It’s great that you are able to expose your district/families to opera! Licenses are half price if you have any other music teachers that want to share!

I was even stumped by a few of these and I studied opera in college! What a fun game for kids of all ages! Great for testing days when the kids need a break and the schedule is off.

In Wisconsin, there is a group called “Opera for the Young”. Students participate in a shortened, child-friendly version of a real opera. We will play this game after our performance! Looks like a lot of fun!

Hilarious time filler for the end of class during opera units..
