Description
This is THE activity to leave for a sub!
– educational
– FUN
– will keep all your kids engaged!
– easy to run with as little or as much tech as you need.
– multiple ways to play – individuals and teams both work!
This huge list of Italian composers and pasta (52 in all) will keep even you guessing!
This game is part of my Music or Not. A set of 5 games for your sub tub!
My best seller is now newly updated to give you the best! You’ve been asking! Now:
– Editable so you can add pictures.
– Includes information about each composer. (Most pictures provided).
– Includes old version if that is your favorite!
– Older kid-friendly in new darker shades.
*There are a few composers that do not have pictures because they either don’t exist, or the composers are still living and pictures are under copyright. Add them yourself with the new editable version! This game does not contain any pictures of the pasta for copyright reasons.
Three print options for the game cards.
Here are some ideas for using the game:
• Emergency sub plans for all ages (Even little ones can have fun with this!)
• Perfect because your sub does not have to be a music person.
• Open House Activity (This is the reason I created this game. My school was having a “Strega Nona” themed open house, and was inspired after seeing an online quiz.. I thought that doing this as a quick game while people walked in and out would be fun since I share my space.)
• End of class reward. My 5-8 general music students beg to play this game!
• Game Day
• Game at the end of a composer unit
• Cross-Cultural Activity about Italy

I purchased this activity to present to my Fine Arts Survey class which includes students of varying ages and academic levels in grades 9-12. The concept intrigued me, but once I downloaded and looked at it more intently, I realized the content was geared to younger students. I recommend this resource for students in elementary and middle school music programs.
Shelley –
Sorry it didn’t fit your needs. I will be looking to do some updates to this in the future to include more details. I hope when it updates, it will be useful to you.
Rachel A. –
I have to be honest. At first, I was not sold on this game idea, but I was in a pinch to do something in class before starting repertoire for my next concert with my 6th, 7th and 8th graders. They loved this game so much! It was quirky and fun, and we actually learned a lot – about composers AND pasta! I managed to segue this game into a primer about music history and the role the Italian Renaissance played in the advancement of western classical music, and the students kept asking questions and questions. It was great. Just yesterday, a 7th grader said to me, “Can we play Pasta or Composer today?” I live for those moments when MIDDLE SCHOOLERS actually get excited about something! Thank you!
AMY C. –

A fun idea with nice graphics, but for $7.00, I was disappointed that there was no information included about the composers (or the pasta, for that matter!) Each slide simply lists a name followed by a slide that says either “composer” or “pasta.” I wish that the answer slides included a picture and some dates for the composer and a picture of the pasta. That would be much more educational and just as much fun. I used the slides to make my own powerpoint with pictures and links to music.
Shelley –
I’m sorry that I am unable to include some of these things. It’s very hard to find photos that are copyright free to be included. If I can be of any help, please feel free to email me at mrsstouffersmusicroom@gmail.com

Miss M’s Music –
My students loved this game! I used it once with my 4th graders and once with my 1st graders, both for when they got to choose a game to play as a reward. The 4th graders really got into the competition aspect of seeing who got the most points, and my 1st graders really enjoyed all the different Italian words and names. This game is ingenious and it’s easy to use in a hybrid classroom, which is such a relief on my part! It took literally 0 prep time on my part and I always keep it in my back pocket just in case I need a sub or I need to fill some extra time in class.
Karen V. –
After a Month-long study of Music History, my students enjoyed having a laugh with this game. I used it with hybrid classes – zoom and in person. I think everyone ended our class time ready for lunch! So much fun!

My students thought this game was so funny! I also loved them trying their absolute best to pronounce each of the words on their own. Definitely some interesting interpretations, haha! This kept them engaged the whole class, and they were so bummed when they had to go. Definitely going to be using this a lot!
Sarah M. –
This is a great filler activity for my students. If we have an extra 5 mins, they love to play this game! Thank you so much!
LeeAnn H. –
Kids loved this! So fun and easy to use for a fun day!
Paige M. –

Logan L. –
This has been an excellent resource in helping my students discover different time periods and styles of music, and in getting to know various Italian composers. Plus, they find the challenge of figuring out if the name is a pasta or composer very fun (I’ve even had some teachers participate, too!)
Michelle Venneri –

This is a fun thing to pop on the screen when there’s “not enough time to do something, but too much time to do nothing.” The students have a blast arguing over whether it’s a composer or a pasta!
Gloria W. –
I had some 6th grade students working on a project and some finished early so I used this game as a filler until everyone was finished. It kept them engaged and was a lot of fun. Some of the things I didn’t even know, so it was a learning experience for me too. It was great to think about pasta but also they got to learn about some composers many were not familiar with.
Ms P Music Class –
My students are OBSESSED with this game! I’ve played it a few ways, in teams or on their own with a whiteboard. They keep asking me to play it again!

My kids really enjoyed this as a fun post-concert, end-of-the-year activity. I like that it has bite-sized information about the composers. This would also be a great thing to leave for a sub. Thanks for the fun product!

My students loved this game and I will be using it more this upcoming school year!
The Sunshine Support Resources Supermarket –
This was a fun and unique activity to use with the kids. They enjoyed trying to guess which was which and made so much noise when they got it right (and wrong).

I left this with a sub. The students said it was fun!
In a Rush –
This was a wonderful resource! Certain times of the year are truly hectic so to have access to great quality resources is paramount! I can feel better about having to rush through some things quickly and still provide quality! Thank you for sharing your talents with this product!

This was a fun time-filler for the end of the year, and I plan to use it for those awkward last few minutes when I didn’t plan a long enough lesson.
Nicole R. –
This was awesome for after our concerts and before the end of the school year. We did it team style and my students really got into it – especially the 6th and 7th graders.

My students loved this game ~ it was a great end of year activity for my older students. Thank you!

We turned this into a game and the students have to answer questions about the music that each composer wrote. My students beg for this game! It is a favorite over all of the grades that I teach. I went to the state music educators conference and I was not the only teacher that mentioned this game. Amazing!

Super fun resource to have – left for a substitute to play with my classes. She said they LOVED it!

Used this with my older students (grade 6-8) who sometimes struggled to be engaged in music topics. We broke off into two teams and they would play against each other. They really enjoyed it as a reward.

I left these with my maternity leave plans and they were a hit. the kids learned a lot about these composers and the sub said they learned a lot too! Double Win!
The Organized Instructor –
My students loved this and it is really cute, too!
