While some people are out for summer, there are still some schools in until the end of the month. If you are looking to make sure you represent the LGTBQ+ community during Pride month (or any other month!), here are some great books for kids. (Full disclosure: some affiliate links but it won’t change your price. No pressure!)

A little girl with two dads loves costumes. One day, dressed as a penguin, she gets “carried away”…!
This book is a perfect companion to the Penguin Dance by Sonna Longden. I learned an adapted version in a circle for young students. Students ‘waddle’ in a circle while passing a stuffed penguin. Alternate clockwise/counter-clockwise with the sections. During the B section, students waddle in and out.
Here is the version in long-ways set. You can buy the music from West Music here.
2. Little People Big Dreams: Elton John
Author: Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara, Illustrator: Sophie Beer

Elton. Iconic. Need I say more?
Listening: Rocket Man
3. Red

This book is a great way to include the idea of non-binary for in a child friendly way. The crayon is red but doesn’t draw red.
This book would be a great pair for any coloring type activity or color related song. If you are looking for a creative option, this would be great to go with my Color Composing activity that you can find on TpT.
I hope this has been helpful and I hope the end of your school year goes smoothly!
