I’ve said it before and I’m very much a person who makes sure that I cover different cultural groups all year and not just in ‘the’ month that is set aside.

But I still think it’s important to cover them in that month. 

March is Women’s History Month.

The story about a self-taught, left handed guitar playing little girl who wrote one of the most famous folk songs of all time by age 11. Her remarkable story is a lovely reminder for kids that music is not just for one group of people, but young and old alike.

Listening: Freight Train – the song she was most known for, and a wonderful video of her performing it.

2. Red Bird Sings: The Story of Zitkala-Ša, Native American Author, Musician, and Activist
